"If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day." — E.B. White

Happy Harvest!

Woo whoooo!
The Farmer's first harvest is almost complete!
This is his first year farming all 115 acres of our farm...

In previous years we grew only hay and leased about 1/2 out to a neighbor who farms hundreds n hundreds of acres all around us.
This year the Farmer bought his own "vintage" equipment to sow n grow for himself.
He''s really got a way with fixing and keeping equipment running...
Good thing.
Farming is hard on machinery (and men).
I hear about broken teeth constantly ~
on the haybine, tedder  or gleaner!

The old gleaner/combine and farm truck are my favorite.
Being a junker n all...
NOT that The Farmer's stuff is junk.
It's just got lotsa character!

We know all the big farms have Big Green shiny equipment.
Take a look at a new favorite blog of mine ~

Quite a different look, huh?

But no matter how fancy your tractor, mother nature sure makes it work...
Between our terrible drought, and the
very hungry caterpillars n grasshoppers

...gettin' beans in the bin is a huge thrill!

I'm lovin'these views.

But I'm not the only one

And these poor folks pay $250 each to see it all!
(There were TWO beautiful balloons overhead tonight)

 Speaking of Beautiful...
"Wild Rose Marketplace & Co." in Walkersville, MD
What she and her fellow artists have put together is STUNNING!!!
Hope you get a chance to visit with her some day soon.
She's sooo worth the drive ~
really high quality pieces at low prices!

Hope your weekend is full of beauty!

Love the harvest pictures. I follow Miss Mustard Seed's blog and skipped over here from a link there today. (Sorry for the complicated sentence.) I would love to drive over to visit her shop but can't quite justify the 3 days one way time it would take. Enjoy it for the rest of us.

My uncle has an old grey gleaner he uses to combine beans around us. This year it's corn year, though, and the farmers are hard at work around us. I agree with you....there is just something about it. It really means fall is here!

Hi Leslie. Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I certainly hope that you can make it out to our Picker Chicks Tag Sale on October 2. Looks like you guys have been hard at work on your farm. I know what that's like. And I agree with you about the more "well seasoned" farm equipment. It has so much more character than the shiny, new "jolly green giants"! There is an old galvanized metal (I can't resist anything galvanized!) combine here on the farm that I just LOVE and another huge old yellow combine that I have nicknamed "Big Bird". The dog in your post looks happy as a clam! What a cutie!

How great that you got to see MMS new digs. That would be a blast.

Love your vintage equipment, and it's great that hubby can fix them up when needed. We live in town, but spend lots of time on farms of relatives and our son is also a 4-H member. He dreams (and at 13 is already saving!) to have his own equipment and land one day.
