"If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day." — E.B. White

Playin' Hookie

Do you ever take your kids outta school just for spontaneous fun?

Today was our first time. Sarah only had a 1/2 day anyway.
We thought she deserved it after her stellar report card too.
We went to a fairly close *small* ski "resort;"  Ski Liberty.
Tonight, all agree it was an awesome day.
Earlier there may or may not have been tears n tantrums.
Not *just* from the short people.
Dad over fees for only 4 hours on the slopes.
Daughter over less than perfect performance (tho only her third time out)
Momma over daughter...
Jack's the only one who never got his knickers in a knot!
We came home to find that the dog (?!) had gotten the back door open and the house was 48 degrees!
Oh well, we'd stopped for dinner and done chores so we'll all just pile in bed w/the elctric mattress pad on and watch The Waltons while the woodstove cranks up...
Also, we drove our new VW diesel wagon and got way waaaaay better mileage than we used to in the tank truck!
Yup, AWESOME (& overdue) DAY!

(As mentioned, the camera's dying so best pics came from Droid!)

Hope your weekend's off to a FUN start!

Leslie, what a beautiful family you have. This sounds like a stellar day. Isn’t it funny how doing some of the best things seem to result in crazy family dynamics that turn great? We seem to always have an emotional outburst when we are going to do something fun together but it quickly turns to happy, normal family again :). Glad your day turned out wonderful.

Looks like a wonderful day, and a sunny one to boot! Full of memories, knicker twists or not, it's all memories of time spent together! Yay!

Love your outlook at the house being only 48 degrees when you got home...all pile in the bed with the electric mattress pad on and watch the Waltons! That is exactly what we would do...right down to watching the Waltons! :)

I remember my mom taking us out and doing something fun...what great memories.
Skiing...now I have only done that once in my life...and that was 27 years ago.
These pictures look great! Sorry about the ups and downs, but as they say, that is what makes the memories...that is what they will talk about. If you don't believe it come and set down at our table and listen to my older guys.

You are a great mom and looks like a wonderful day...yea! for Dad!

What a wonderful day! I can remember my mom taking me out of school every now and then for special family time and I thought she was the coolest mom!

What a great outlook when things are not exactly perfect! Way to go.
