"If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day." — E.B. White

BOO who?

Hmm, we've said before that she looked like ET...

 She likes candy.

Peek a BOO!

It's Chase, our beloved (doglike) goat! xo

She thinks she's spooky enough without the sheet.

And this one wasn't too keen on posing either.

(This was part of Sarah's costume as a 3yo. Tho it WAS made for a dog!)

But these clowns were the worst!

It's true kids n pets make the most challenging portraits.
I've been trying to only shoot in manual mode n they're killing me!
No wonder I love snapping barns n countryside!

Wishing you a goofy day!
(This will be my 1st try w/scheduling a post in advance. Due to Hurricane Sandy I'm not sure what we'll be able to do on Halloween. Hope everyone out there is okay!)

Are you ready...?

No, not this

or this!

  For Halloween, silly!

We've been enjoying some pre Halloween treats. First we attended the local firehall's annual party and costume contest... I'm happy to say that Jack won his age group (w/ a costume influenced by pinterest of course). Sarah was 2nd in her group tho there wasn't nearly as many kids as in past years.
Friday evening our school hosted a Fall Harvest Night with crafts, games and face paintings!

A few in my black cat collection... Jack made the two small center ones below.

Wishing you all a safe weather week with  pumpkins that stay put and no decor blown or washed away!!!

Feeding my soul

Here The Farmer is planting a cover crop of Rye to help the soil thru winter

On occasion The Farmer asks me to help him... Some times it's baling hay, other times it's just running, fetching or following... He's about finished harvesting and planting for this year. Last week he needed me to help him as he moved equipment from a farm he rents back to our home farm. He asked me to bring the truck with food n diesel for him to refuel quickly. Wish I could say I'm like my friend Janie who brings crock pots of warm comfort out to the fields. Nope. I bring cold subs n Gatorade.
And my camera. Because truth be; I'm feeding my soul while I'm refueling him.

Kinda like jets refueling on the fly, huh? Diesel from a tank in truck bed goes into tractor while sub's swallowed FAST.
This pic is 2 yrs old but I LOVE IT

Combining soybeans w/chaff falling back out while beans go in the hopper.

This trip I was trying out my new zoom lens and having lotsa fun.
I freakin' ADORE where we live!
I grew up closer to Washington DC and my soul sings in the open countryside up here.
Old red barns, historic homes and cute critters abound...
These pics were all taken from my truck as I followed him home.

That's no sheep. Mama that's a llama!

Chug, chug chug, he's almost home... There's the Farmer's workshop just over yonder hill.

My soul is well fed.

Wishing you a feeling of abundance today, my friends!

Oh what a beautiful morning

I couldn't wait to get outside this morning to try to catch some of the beautiful frosty views..

But first I had to snap these...

Then while I struggled with capturing this last frosty blossom,

and was struck by this vignette...

THIS landed in our top field!!!

Oh what a beautiful day!

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend.

Bundled up

Some might be covering and tucking in their flowers...
We rush out to cover and tuck in horses n ponies when the weather changes suddenly.
(My flowers are all tattered n not worth saving tho I pulled a few pots inside)
Yesterday the temps plunged and rain was imminent so I asked the kids to run out and help me bring up their ponies before it became too miserable...
Bless their sweet hearts, they ran right out in jammies in bathrobes with added winter gear n wellies!
I came 'round the corner and quickly caught this sweetness with my cellphone.
These are the days.
